FRIDAY 6/30/17 CALLS TO ACTION: Resistance
RESISTANCE IS FERTILE ?
The resistance is growing every single day. I thought I’d take some time today to put some inspirational news and maybe some random silliness out there. These calls to action can get pretty depressing sometimes, when we see all that we’re up against. We need a reminder that our resistance is working. We are making a difference in the world. Thank you all for your participation and persistence.
I’m taking a couple of days off. I’ll be back July 5th with the usual calls to action.
Handmaids Converge On Albany To Demand Expanded Abortion And Contraception Rights – I love this method of protest. It is infinitely creepy and attention-getting and just perfect to counter the He-Man, Woman Haters Club in Congress and our state legislatures.

Congressional Black Caucus Declines Invite to Trump’s Photo Op Disguised As a Meeting
“While we agreed to explore possible future discussions when we first met, it has become abundantly clear that a conversation with the entire CBC would not be entirely productive, given the actions taken by your administration since our first meeting,” Richmond wrote.
Some of the disconcerting actions Richmond cited include proposed Pell grant cuts, Attorney General Jeff Sessions’s acceleration of the war on drugs, and budget cuts to HBCUs. The letter then mentions eight instances in which the CBC reached out to the White House with concerns without ever receiving a response.
Protesting the “healthcare” bill – outside Mitch McConnell’s office, protesters in wheelchairs were forcibly removed, some dragged from their wheelchairs. Thank you to these brave folks.

National Bailout Day – Donate – Pre-trial incarceration has catastrophic impacts on our communities in particular. Black people are over two times more likely to be arrested and once arrested are twice as likely to be caged before trial. Our LBGTQ and gender nonconforming family are targeted and caged at even more alarming rates, and once in jail are significantly more likely to be sexually and physically abused. For instance, one in five transgender women have spent time in prison or jail and one in three of them reported being sexually assaulted while there.
Anna Navarro needs to come on over to our side. It’s obvious the Republican Party has nothing for her anymore. C’mon over, Anna. We have cookies!
