THURSDAY 3/30/17 CALLS TO ACTION: GOP = Greed Over People

Continue to Oppose Neil Gorsuch:

Neil Gorsuch is a horrible choice for the Supreme Court. He has made a career out of overtly pro-business rulings, often at the expense of workers. His “originalist” ideology, is extreme, conservative, and out of touch with human rights and is even further to the right than Justice Scalia.  There are many other moderate jurists out there that could be consensus candidates. Take this opportunity to remind Republican Senators how shameful you found their blockade of the centrist Merrick Garland.

SCRIPT:  (Thom Tillis is on Judiciary Committee):
I am a concerned citizen of North Carolina calling to voice my opposition to the nomination of Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court. His potential confirmation poses serious challenges to human and reproductive rights. He is notorious for siding with corporate interests over living, breathing human beings. Now that the President is under FBI investigation, you need to oppose any judicial candidate he puts forward until we know for sure whether the President is even legitimately the President. Thank you for your time.

PARIS CLIMATE ACCORD:
As you likely know, Donald Trump used executive orders to gut the United States’ environmental regulations. The nominal purpose of Trump’s executive orders is that it will create “clean coal” jobs, but this is just a ruse. Whether not removing these regulations would create jobs is debatable. What is not debatable is the fact that permitting more CO2 emissions from fossil fuel-powered factories could do irreparable harm to our planet. One target we can latch onto is the Paris Climate Agreement, which virtually every other country has embraced–even China. In fact, Exxon Mobil sent a letter to Trump stating that we should continue to stay in the Paris Agreement.

SCRIPT:
Hello, I am a constituent calling from ____________________, and I am calling to urge Sen./Rep. to support legislation that would ensure that the U.S. will continue to work toward the emissions standards we agreed to reach in the Paris Climate Agreement. It is urgent that we protect our planet from the dangerous effects of climate change and that we respect international agreements. In fact, even Exxon Mobil has stated that we should remain in the Paris Agreement. Thank you for your time.

And if you are so inclined:

Purchase Private Internet Histories – “I plan on purchasing the Internet histories of all legislators, congressmen, executives, and their families and make them easily searchable at searchinternethistory.com. Everything from their medical, pornographic, to their financial and infidelity. Anything they have looked at, searched for, or visited on the Internet will now be available for everyone to comb through.”

The 265 members of Congress who sold you out to ISPs, and how much it cost to buy them
*Spoiler Alert*
Burr – $58,500
Tillis – $41,220
And Mr. Cheap Date himself: Walker – $16,750

STATE:

HB2

It appears that the NC state legislature is moving swiftly to repeal HB2 before the NCAA deadline expires Thursday. Some Democrats and Governor Cooper support a new compromise, HB 142. LGBT advocacy groups oppose this measure: “The deal proposed would continue to actively discriminate against the LGBT community,” says Chris Sgro, executive director of Equality. The bill puts a moratorium on local nondiscrimination ordinances until 2020. Human and civil rights are not partisan issues. Call reps, and Cooper to oppose this compromise bill.

SCRIPT:
I am a constituent calling from ________ County, and I urge Rep./Senator to oppose any compromise repeal of HB2 that limits civil and human rights in any way. Only a full repeal is likely to satisfy the groups and companies boycotting our state. Thank you for taking my call.

Hog Farms:

HB467 would prevent North Carolina residents from suing industrial hog farms from polluting their air and water. The NCGA will go above and beyond to protect a Chinese hog farm corporation but won’t lift a finger to help actual people living in NC. Typical.

House Bill 467 would shield industrial hog industry from many legal claims
