Asheboro - March 15, 2008
N.C. State Senator and U.S. Senate Candidate Kay Hagan (D-Guilford) had coffee and met with supporters Saturday afternoon at the Coffee Xchange (191 NC Hwy 42 N). The Asheboro visit came at the end of a long day for Senator Hagan that began in Fayetteville. There she formally accepted the North Carolina Association of Educators endorsement in her campaign for the U.S. Senate. After leaving Fayetteville, Senator Hagan met with supporters in Clinton and Sanford before visiting Asheboro.
Kay mixed with the crowd and spoke one-on-one with many of her supporters. Before leaving, she delivered a speech during which she roundly criticized Senator Dole as an ineffective representative of the interests of North Carolina and its people.
She said “ Elizabeth Dole is ranked 93rd when it comes to effectiveness in the U.S. Senate .”Kay also criticized Senator Dole for her party-line voting record “ Elizabeth Dole votes with President Bush 92% of the time.” Senator Hagan then proceeded to list several points on which Dole had failed to support the best interests of North Carolina with respect to the economy, the environment, education, health care, veterans' issues and more.
She said that when elected to the U.S. Senate , “I will remember you” and that her door would always be open to her constituents. For more information about Kay Hagan's campaign for the U.S. Senate , visit www.kayhagan.com .
