MONDAY 3/27/17 CALLS TO ACTION: We won the battle, but the war wages on.

I’d like to give a huge and profound thank you to everyone who has called, emailed, tweeted, written postcards, protested and marched in opposition to the horrible American Health Care Act. It was pulled on Friday, hopefully never to return. This is proof that we can make a difference. Persistence pays off.

Per House members, phone calls on the GOP health bill run 50-to-1 against

And with that, we’re back on the clock.

FEDERAL:

Support the rights and sovereignty of indigenous people.

Oppose the wall at the Mexican border.

Its construction infringes on the sovereignty of the Tohono O’odham Nation.

Call Mark Walker

Script: Hi, my name is ___________. I’m from ___(town)_____ in  Randolph County and would like to know if Rep. Walker has publicly opposed building a wall on the Mexico border. I’m concerned about having to pay for it, about it harming relations with Mexico, and the impact on the Native American tribe whose land it would cross. Thanks for your time.

The government should be led by qualified, trustworthy representatives.

Support an independent investigation of 45’s ties to Russia.

Call Richard Burr and Thom Tillis

Script: Hi. I’m from ___(town)____, NC, ZIP code_______ and I am more concerned than ever about Trump’s ties to Russia. Our democracy depends on truth and transparency, and the current committee is not trustworthy. Is Sen _________ willing to join Republicans like John McCain and Darrell Issa and Democrats Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden in publicly supporting an independent investigation?

STATE:

SB75
would change the state constitution to permanently freeze income tax rates in North Carolina. One of it’s sponsors is our own Sen. Jerry Tillman, whose purpose in life is to promote legislation which victimizes poor people, school children and minorities.

This constitutional amendment is essentially a giveaway to millionaires that will just keep in place the heavy tax load carried by middle- and working-class families. The income tax cuts the policymakers have passed since 2013 gave the wealthy the biggest breaks, at the expense of the rest of the state. Now that they are fully phased in as of January 1, those income tax cuts will reduce annual revenue by $2 billion.

Tell the General Assembly to reject a dangerous constitutional amendment

Script:  My name is ________ and I am a constituent from Randolph County, ZIP code________. I am calling to voice my displeasure with SB 75, which will allow lawmakers in Raleigh to continue to underfund schools, roads, public health and parks, placing that burden on already strapped municipalities. I am asking Sen _________ to vote NO on SB 75. Thank you for your time.

Or, if you are in Tillman’s district:

Script:  My name is ________ and I am a constituent of Sen. Tillman from Randolph County, ZIP code________. I am calling to voice my displeasure with SB 75, which will allow lawmakers in Raleigh to continue to underfund schools, roads, public health and parks, placing that burden on already strapped municipalities. I am asking Sen Tillman to withdraw his sponsorship on SB 75 and stop trying to pilfer money from middle and lower class taxpayers’ pockets in order to line the pockets of millionaires and his benefactors. Thank you for your time.
