Trump Threatens Coverage Of Millions If Democrats Won’t Negotiate On ACA Repeal

“In an interview with the Wall Street Journal that appeared on Wednesday, Trump made a warning. If Democrats won’t talk repeal, the president said, Republicans might decide to cut off some subsidies now flowing to health insurers offering coverage through Obamacare’s exchanges.”

Sounds like he’s trying to live up to his mobster nickname “Don the Con.”

I am calling to urge the Sen/Rep to support legislation that would up hold and strengthen the Affordable Care Act rather than trying to undercut the program. The President’s threat to torpedo subsidies if Democrats won’t agree to repeal of the ACA amount to blatant extortion. I am calling on the Sen/Rep to work for the good of working people who rely on the ACA to stay alive and healthy instead of working for corporate interests. Thanks you for your time.

“The STOP Act takes the humane, comprehensive and evidence-based approach we need when it comes to drug policy. By mandating smarter regulations for prescribing and dispensing controlled substances, such as enforcing the use of a Controlled Substance Reporting System to reduce the act of doctor shopping and placing restrictions on the amount a health-care professional can prescribe for acute pain, we can mitigate the pattern of opioid over-prescribing that has served as the catalyst for this epidemic.“

One way to mitigate opioid misuse is to have a replacement painkiller. HB 185, the North Carolina Medical Cannabis Act, is currently sitting in the Rules Committee. It would permit qualified patients to possess up to 24 ounces of cannabis or grow their own personal supply. Separate provisions in the Act license and regulate the dispensing of cannabis from state-licensed facilities. Twenty-nine states and the District of Columbia have enacted statewide provisions allowing patients access to cannabis therapy. North Carolina patients deserve these same protections.

 

 

 
SCRIPT: Hello, I am a constituent from ______________. I am calling to urge Rep/Sen___________ to support the STOP Act to enact smarter regulations for prescribing and dispensing opioid medications. Too many people are dying from opioid overdoses and this needs to be addressed immediately. To that end, I am asking that the Rep/Sen also support HB185, which would allow patients to avail themselves of medical marijuana which is much less dangerous. Polls show that 93% of Americans are in favor of legalizing medical marijuana.  Medical marijuana would provide a stop gap for pain relief and help with maintenance of other medical conditions in the absence of opioids.   Thank you for your time.

March for Science, Greensboro – The rally and march in Greensboro will include short speeches from local scientists who work at North Carolina A & T, UNC Greensboro, and other local organizations. We will also be featuring performances from local bands Disaster Recovery and Viva La Muerte, and from kid activist Sage Advice. If the policies he proposed on the campaign trail are implemented, they will destroy our climate, decimate our jobs and livelihoods, and undermine the civil rights and liberties won in many hard fought battles. It’s up to us to stop that from happening before it starts.
