THURSDAY 4/13/17 CALLS TO ACTION: Former presidents spinning in their graves.

FEDERAL:

It’s ridiculous that we have to keep calling about this, but we do. Things seem to be unraveling more and more every day. Keep picking at that thread folks. Pretty soon we’ll have it all pulled apart.

“…financial records newly obtained by The Associated Press confirm that at least $1.2 million in payments listed in the ledger next to Manafort’s name were actually received by his consulting firm in the United States. They include payments in 2007 and 2009, providing the first evidence that Manafort’s firm received at least some money listed in the so-called Black Ledger.”

AP Exclusive: Manafort firm received Ukraine ledger payout

SCRIPT:

I am calling to urge the Representative to take a public stand in calling for an independent commission to investigate Trump-Russia ties and possible collusion. It is painfully obvious that the House Intelligence Committee cannot oversee an impartial investigation. Collusion and meddling in our presidential elections is not a partisan issue and I am asking that (REPRESENTATIVE) publicly call for an independent investigation.  Thank you.

STATE:

HB 728: More ridiculousness from our NCGA. Now they want to put forward legislation that would remove UNC and NC State from the ACC if the ACC ever boycotts our state because of the wingnut laws our legislators put forward.

Bill would pull NC colleges out of ACC if state is boycotted again

SCRIPT:

Hello, my name is _________. I am from ___________. I am calling to urge Rep.____________ to vote “no” on HB 728, which would prohibit UNC and NC State from extending the grant of media rights to the ACC or NCAA, should one of those conferences participate in a boycott of North Carolina. This sort of legislation is nothing but childish payback for all the bad press HB2 caused. If NC’s lawmakers would refrain from passing discriminatory legislation there would be no reason for any athletic conference or other organization to boycott us. Thank you for your time.

And finally, Rep. Larry Pittman made comments Wednesday comparing Adolf Hitler to Abraham Lincoln. It seems that Republicans love to compare people and things they disagree with to Hitler. Seems like low hanging fruit to me. They can’t come up with anything more substantive, so “OMG, Hitler!”

UPCOMING EVENTS:

Lunch with Lawmakers – Friday April 21, 2017 Archdale Trinity Chamber of Commerce is having a forum to make Reps. Pat Hurley and Allen McNeill  and Senator Jerry Tillman available to answer questions from constituents. See the link for the official flyer from the Chamber.

Tax March on Washington – Throughout the presidential campaign, Donald Trump promised that he would release his tax returns “later.” Then, just a few days after Trump assumed office, his top adviser, Kellyanne Conway, said that he wouldn’t release his tax returns ever, because the American people “don’t care.” We’re here to say that we do care. Join us at the White House on Saturday, April 15, 2017, to march and show Donald Trump that he owes us transparency. Two-thirds of Americans are concerned that he may be putting his interests ahead of the country’s. Until we see his tax returns, we can’t know for sure. There will also be rallies in Charlotte, Raleigh, and Mooresville the same day. Visit http://taxmarch.org/ for more information.

March for Science, Greensboro – The rally and march in Greensboro will include short speeches from local scientists who work at North Carolina A & T, UNC Greensboro, and other local organizations. We will also be featuring performances from local bands Disaster Recovery and Viva La Muerte, and from kid activist Sage Advice. Supporters of science from across the Piedmont Triad will gather at this event.  To help costs related to the march, please contribute to our gofundme page! https://www.gofundme.com/marchforsciencegreensboro  Leftover money will be used to send deserving local children to a local science camp.

People’s Climate March –  Join us April 29th in Washington, DC to let Trump know that we won’t let him pollute the air and wreck the climate on our watch!  There is no denying it: Donald Trump’s election is a threat to the future of our planet, the safety of our communities, and the health of our families. If the policies he proposed on the campaign trail are implemented, they will destroy our climate, decimate our jobs and livelihoods, and undermine the civil rights and liberties won in many hard fought battles. It’s up to us to stop that from happening before it starts.
