WEDNESDAY 3/29/17 CALLS TO ACTION: Same $#!&, Different Day from Faux News

Today Fox News personality Bill O’Reilly made a blatantly racist, sexist remark about Congresswoman Maxine Waters. “I didn’t hear a word she said,” O’Reilly said of Waters. “I was looking at the James Brown wig.” Although he subsequently apologized, O’Reilly’s brand of inflammatory punditry is utterly deplorable. Let Fox News know how you feel about his comment. Contact the show directly as well, and let him have it on Twitter.

RUSSIA, COMRADE:

Keep calling about #TrumpRussia. Rep Devin Nunes, the Republican chair of the House Intel Committee, has stated that he will not recuse himself from committee deliberations on the Trump-Russia issue. Nunes is squarely in the pocket of the Trump Administration and should recuse himself and/or be relieved of his chairmanship.

STATE:
Protect our environment:

“Water pollution? What water pollution?!”

Bill introduced to stop wind projects through 2020
We know that the Trump administration is busy rolling back environmental protections and gutting the EPA, but we have a similar war being waged in Raleigh. There are two bad bills right now, S 131 in the Senate, which would roll back stream protections (see sections 3.7 – 3.14), and HB 470 in the House, a bill that would put a three year moratorium on any wind power projects. (A similar wind bill in the Senate is S 366.) The excuse for these bills is a supposed study on the impact of military operations in the state. However, given Duke Energy’s abysmal record in the state, combined with its outsized political spending, it’s not a surprise that the legislature wants to aid big polluters. Meanwhile, there is a good bill in the House, HB 353, that would add a new state park on the Black River, an area of swampland that contains ancient trees, abundant beauty, and biodiversity. Let’s call our representatives and let them know that protecting our natural resources is important to us.

SCRIPT FOR HOUSE (HB 353):
I am a constituent calling from zip code ________ calling to voice my support for HB 353, a bill that would create a new state park on the Black River. We must act now to preserve what is left of our natural ecosystems. Please urge Rep. ________ to support this bill. Thank you for recording my call.

SCRIPT FOR SENATE: (S 131)
I am a constituent in zip code ________ calling to urge Senator ________ to oppose S 131. Rolling back stream protections may help a few polluting businesses, but will hurt all of us now and in the future. We deserve clean air, soil, and water in our state. Thank you for recording my call.

SCRIPT FOR HOUSE (HB 470):
I am a constituent calling from zip code ________ calling to voice my opposition to HB 470, a bill that would halt wind power projects for three years. Given the imminent threat posed to North Carolina’s coast by climate change, we need to accelerate renewable energy projects as quickly as possible. Please urge Rep. ________ to oppose this bill.Thank you for recording my call.

SCRIPT FOR SENATE (S 366):
I am a constituent calling from zip code ________ calling to voice my opposition to S 366, a bill that would halt wind power projects for three years. Given the imminent threat posed to North Carolina’s coast by climate change, we need to accelerate renewable energy projects as quickly as possible. Please urge Senator ________ to oppose this bill.Thank you for recording my call.
