MONDAY 6/19/17 CALLS TO ACTION: Public money for private pockets

FEDERAL:

DIANE RAVITCH ON “SCHOOL INC.” – (Video) Can education be run like a business? PBS’s series “School Inc.” makes the case, but not everyone thinks it makes the grade. Education historian Diane Ravitch tells us why.

Ravitch: Why is PBS running this education documentary? – “But this month the Public Broadcasting System is broadcasting a “documentary” that tells a one-sided story, the story that DeVos herself would tell, based on the work of the late free-market advocate Andrew Coulson. Author of “Market Education,” Coulson narrates “School Inc., “ a three-hour program, which airs nationwide in three weekly broadcasts on some PBS stations”

Dear PBS: School Inc. is right-wing, DeVos propaganda. Tell the truth. Air Diane Ravitch’s response. Air Backpack Full of Cash.

YOUNG ACTIVISTS THREATENED WITH ARREST FOR TRYING TO DELIVER A LETTER TO SPEAKER TIM MOORE’S OFFICE

If the citizens of North Carolina aren’t able to access the offices of their representatives in the General Assembly, especially those of the Speaker of the House, then who, exactly is this legislature working for? The elected officials in Raleigh should be reminded that they are not our leaders, they are our employees. They are employed at the pleasure of the people, and given people’s general dissatisfaction with politicians, our legislators should be worried about their jobs.

Speaker Moore peeks out from his office to make sure the scary voters are gone.

Call, write or Tweet Speaker Tim Moore and let him know that we will not be deterred from petitioning our representatives in government for a redress of grievances. If Moore doesn’t want to speak to constituents, then he should step down and let someone with an interest in governing have the job.
