Healthcare “Reform” – thanks to Betsy Hitt for this call to action.

Today is the last day to send your comments to HealthReform@finance.senate.gov

The Senate is working away in secret to take health care away from millions of people.

Better speak up now. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/23/opinion/health-care-bill-senate.html

STATE:

Cherie Berry. You see her picture in elevators across the state. Who knew she was content to let unscrupulous employers engage in wage theft from their workers?

Report: NC employers stealing $316 million per year from employees; Labor Commissioner faulted – “The severity of minimum wage violations in North Carolina may come as less of a surprise given that the state’s elected labor commissioner during the period studied showed little interest in enforcing wage laws. An investigation by The Charlotte Observer noted that during the commissioner’s 15-year tenure, her office “sued companies for failing to pay wages only 35 times, an average of less than 2.5 times a year” (Locke 2015) [See The Reluctant Regulator]

They don’t make it easy to get in touch with the Labor Commissioner but here are some links I’ve found:

SCRIPT: My name is ________ calling from Randolph County. I have heard some disturbing news, that Commissioner Berry has been less than interested in pursuing cases of wage theft perpetrated on the hard-working people of North Carolina by certain employers. If we cannot trust our labor commissioner to go to bat for laborers themselves, exactly what are we paying her for?
