THURSDAY 4/27/17 CALLS TO ACTION: Crossover ends at midnight.

Help us keep our Headquarters open. Take the $10 pledge.

FEDERAL:

HR 1628 – American Health Care Act of 2017

Amendment to HR 1628 – SEC. 136. PERMITTING STATES TO WAIVE CERTAIN ACA REQUIREMENTS TO ENCOURAGE FAIR HEALTH INSURANCE PREMIUMS

Republicans in Congress have decided, in their infinite wisdom, that while they feel TrumpCare (or as I like to call it, the R.I.P*) is good enough for us lowly plebs, they just aren’t okay with having it for themselves. “The best evidence yet that the new GOP repeal plan is a disaster for people’s health care is that the GOP exempted Members of Congress from living under it,” said Leslie Dach, director of the Protect Our Care Campaign, one of the main groups fighting repeal.

Republicans exempt their own insurance from their latest health care proposal – “A bit of background is helpful here. Obamacare requires all members of Congress and their staff to purchase coverage on the individual market, just like Obamacare enrollees. The politics of that plank were simple enough, meant to demonstrate that if the coverage in this law were good enough for Americans than it should be good enough for their representations in Washington.”

Call Mark Walker

Script: Hi, my name is ___________ from ZIP code _____ in the 6th District. I am calling about the proposed amendment to HR 1628 that would allow members of Congress to opt out of the insurance plan that Republicans are trying to foist on us. If you’re going to force us to have TrumpCare, then members of Congress should have to endure it as well. Our Congresspersons, who are citizens just like the rest of us, should not be afforded a different, higher standard of healthcare than the people they represent. Thank you for your time.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

Randolph County Democratic Women’s Monthly Meeting – Saturday, April 29th at Democratic HQ, 803 W. Salisbury St. Asheboro, NC.  (SW Corner of Salisbury and Cherry in the same building as the vape shop). Use the back entrance, please. This is the Regular Meeting for the Democratic Women in Randolph County. We ask that you bring a breakfast item to share and a friend to share it with! We welcome all who care to participate and will be accepting membership fees for new and continued support. This is a slight deviation from our previous schedule, this meeting will be held on the 5th Saturday.

People’s Climate March –  Join us Saturday April 29th in Washington, DC to let Trump know that we won’t let him pollute the air and wreck the climate on our watch!  There is no denying it: Donald Trump’s election is a threat to the future of our planet, the safety of our communities, and the health of our families. If the policies he proposed on the campaign trail are implemented, they will destroy our climate, decimate our jobs and livelihoods, and undermine the civil rights and liberties won in many hard-fought battles. It’s up to us to stop that from happening before it starts.

Indivisible:NC 6th Congressional District will hold Our first general meeting since the original organizational meeting held back in January.  Let’s see how we’re doing: where we are and where we hope to go. There will be time for feedback and for socializing, because all work and no play makes for dull activism! We’d love to have you all there. Please reply to and please join! BYOB and a snack to share. When: Sunday April 30, at 3:00 p.m. Where: North 87 South, 8874 NC Hwy 87, Graham, NC 27253 See On Map
