WEDNESDAY 4/26/17 CALLS TO ACTION: What’s the holdup?
FEDERAL:
Senator Richard Burr is dragging his feet on the Trump-Russia investigation.

Senate Trump-Russia Probe Has No Full-Time Staff, No Key Witnesses
“We have devoted seven professional staff positions to this investigation. These are staffers who already had the clearance,” Burr said on March 29.
Of the seven staffers so far assigned to review classified documents related to the Russia investigation, none of them has prosecutorial or investigative experience, according to three sources with ties to the committee.
Most of them lack a background in Russia expertise. Not one of the seven is a lawyer.
“I don’t see how you can do this without trained investigators and prosecutors. I think you need to have expertise on the intel side and on the prosecution side. You would ideally need someone who knows how to do a counterintelligence operation,” said Scott Horton, an attorney who has focused on anti-corruption investigations, with a specialization in the Soviet Union and post-Soviet states.”
Give the Senator a call and ask him what’s the holdup. It’s almost as if he has something to hide.
Hi, my name is ________, and I am an American calling to ask why Sen. Burr seems to be dragging his feet on investigating the connections between Donald Trump and Russia. I’m also calling to demand the Senate Intelligence Committee either investigate the administration’s possible ties to Russian election tampering or make way for an independent investigation. By impeding the process, the chairman has proven himself unfit to pursue a thorough and impartial inquiry. The American people deserve more respect from their government than this. Thank you for your time.
STATE:
We’re in the middle of crossover week at the General Assembly and things are pretty chaotic. What is crossover week, you ask? Here is an excellent explanation. There are so many bills flying around right now, it’s hard to pin any of them down. As soon as the crossover is finished, we’ll be better able to let you know about the bills that survive the process.
Here’s our NCDP Chair, Wayne Goodwin discussing what we may see from crossover week.
In the meantime:
HB 574 will be reviewed in the House Committee on Energy and Public Utilities today at 1PM. According to the NC League of Conservation Voters, this bill, put forward by three Republican sponsors and signed on to by 18 cosponsors from both parties will “streamline the permitting of new wind energy projects in North Carolina.”

Assuming this bill makes it out of committee:
Script: Hi, my name is _______ from ________. I am calling to urge the Sen/Rep to support HB 574, the Wind Energy/Consistency with Military Act. North Carolina needs to aggressively pursue renewable energy and this bill seems like a good start. Thank you for your time.

It’s up to us to stop that from happening before it starts.
