TUESDAY CALLS TO ACTION: Congress Gone Fishin’

FEDERAL

Town Halls

Because the US Congress is not in session this week it won’t do us much good to call them, however you can continue to call Sens. Burr & Tillis as well as Rep. Walker at their local offices to request town halls.

Sen. Tillis has confirmed that he will be attending a Durham Chamber of Commerce Meet & Greet on March 6th. Cost is $25/person. So, I guess we’ve learned that if you’re a business entity who will put up a pay wall and shield him from the riff raff public, Sen. Tillis will be happy to come talk to you.

Protesters left a message for Sen Richard Burr outside his Winston-Salem office.

As Congress recesses, GOP members go MIA in the Triad

STATE:

Four North Carolina lawmakers are sponsoring a bill (filed last week in the NC house) that will prohibit police/law enforcement from racially profiling, require that police collect statistics on people killed by police, and require anti-discrimination training. The bill is discussed in more detail in an article on the front page of the Winston Salem Journal this Monday
http://www.journalnow.com/…/article_f0a020db-6d0e-579e-a287…

We need more accountability for police, since our very own Rep. Allen McNeill, House 78 got his bill (HB 972) passed last year that exempted law enforcement body cam footage from being considered public record.

Call your NCGA rep and tell them:
Hi, My name is ________ and I’m a constituent from____________. I read the Winston-Salem Journal article about House Bill 99 this morning and wanted to voice my support for the Anti-descrimination act of 2017. I believe that accountability and transparency within the police force make our communities safer. I hope that Senator/Representative ___________ will consider supporting the HB 99. Thank you, _____________.
