FRIDAY 6/2/17 CALLS TO ACTION: Can we get a real president, please?

I am sort of exasperated today and I don’t quite know what to tell you all. I’m going to overload you with links to information, calls to action and events relating to climate change and science because I just don’t know what else to do at the moment.

The bad news is that the short-sighted, raving lunatic in the White House has decided that the US is going to pull out or try to renegotiate the Paris Agreement to battle global climate change. The good news is that Germany, France and Italy, main players in this agreement have said that renegotiation is not going to happen.

It’s obvious that the “President” can’t see past the end of his nose when it comes to much of anything. If he thinks this is going to reinvigorate the coal industry he’s not living in the real world. This is nothing but a ploy to create more wealth for energy companies, oil and gas interests here and in Russia, and rampant polluters for the sake of campaign donations.

Elon Musk is jumping ship, which has been a long time in coming. “Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has quit two of President Trump’s business advisory councils after the president announced he will pull the U.S. out of the historic Paris climate agreement.”

Disney’s CEO Joins Elon Musk and Quits Trump’s Business Council – “Bob Iger, the CEO of Disney, just quit President Trump’s jobs council in response to his withdrawing of the U.S. from the Paris climate accords. In a tweet, Iger called his resignation “a matter of principle.”

5 Changes That Could Come From Leaving The Paris Climate Deal – “The main goal of the Paris deal was to limit global temperature rise to 2 degrees Celsius. Beyond that point, scientists worry that catastrophic impacts of warming become irreversible.”

Statement by the Prime Minister of Canada in response to the United States’ decision to withdraw from the Paris Agreement

Oh, and here’s a happy little tidbit. The 2017 Hurricane Season is starting and we don’t have anyone running FEMA or NOAA.

WITH TRUMP, THE FIGHT FOR OUR CLIMATE GOES LOCAL – “With Trump in the White House, it’s time to shift our focus to the local level. Let’s stop dirty, dangerous fossil fuels and build healthy communities that pave the way to a just, clean energy future.”

MoveOn.org Petition: We, the people of the United States, sign on to the Paris Agreement

Call your Senators and complain, call your Representative and complain. Call your State Senators and Representatives and complain. Call the White House comment line at 202-456-1111 and complain. Tell anyone and everyone you can that we will not stand for this ignorant, short-sighted behavior from the people charged with running our government at all levels. We will not let them trash the world that our children and grandchildren will have to clean up (if they’re lucky that’s all they’ll have to do).

Late breaking last night:

@NBCNightlyNews

BREAKING: CA, NY and WA governors reject Pres. Trump’s decision; will convene alliance of US states that want to uphold climate agreement

Call Governor Roy Cooper – (919) 814-2000 and urge him to join with other states who want to uphold the tenets of the Paris Climate Agreement.
Then, call your State Senators and Representatives and tell them the same thing.

This is unacceptable, so don’t accept it.
