MONDAY 2/6 CALLS TO ACTION: We’re playing the long game.

Good Monday morning everyone! We’ve got several ideas for direct actions for you to take today. I know it seems like forever, but we’re only in the third week of the Trump presidency so there’s still plenty to do. Pace yourself and don’t wear yourself out. It’s a marathon, not a sprint. If you’d like to receive our Daily Call to Action via email, please visit NEWSLETTERS.

ASK FOR TOWN HALLS

CALL your representatives in Congress and formally ask for town hall or other constituent meetings. Make sure they record your call, and ask them when they will get back to you. Let us know if you receive any return contact or if the congressperson commits to a townhall. We’d love to publicize it.

SIGN A PETITION
Democracy Now has a petition to ask Gov. Roy Cooper and Attorney General Josh Stein to strengthen voting access in our state, it’s quick and easy

US House

SUPPORT the Bannon Bill:

I am a constituent from zip code ___________ calling to encourage Rep. _________________ to support the House bill sponsored by Stephanie Murphy that would protect the National Security Council from political influence by banning political appointees such as Steve Bannon from serving on the Principals Committee. This bill would also ensure that security experts such as the DNI and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff would have standing invitations to attend Principals Committee meetings. Our national security should not be a political football; therefore I strongly encourage Rep. ____________ to back this legislation.

US Senate

ASK BURR AND TILLIS TO RECUSE ON DeVOS VOTE

It’s obvious by now that Sens. Burr and Tillis are going to vote “YES” for Betsy DeVos’s nomination for Sec. of Education. Call their offices and ask that they, and any other senators who accepted donations from the DeVos family recuse themselves from the vote, as they cannot be objective after being paid off.

Short script: I am a constituent from zip code________. I am asking that Sen. ________, who received donations from the DeVos family, recuse himself from the Senate vote on Betsy DeVos’s nomination. Senators cannot be considered objective in their decision when they have received money in exchange for their votes, as per DeVos’s own statements.

OPPOSE Scott Pruitt:

Pruitt was voted out of committee yesterday, so he should be up for a full floor vote soon. Here’s a script for him:

[Try to get the staffer’s name] I am a constituent from zip code ____ calling to oppose Scott Pruitt’s nomination to lead the Environmental Protection Agency. He has a history of opposing environmental regulations, a stance that will not only harm our planet but will also undermine our national security. Pruitt is also currently suing the EPA, which presents a clear conflict of interest. I ask that Senator ______ vote NO on Pruitt’s confirmation, thank you so much for your time.
