MONDAY CALL TO ACTION: Let’s get down to business.

Call your Congress.

NC Senator Richard Burr, who is on the committee holding hearings for Betsy DeVos’s nomination for Sec. of Education, has received $43,000 in campaign donations from DeVos. DeVos is grossly unqualified for this job. She has never even attended a public school, much less taught at one. She does not have a degree in education and has no experience in anything other than peddling for-profit charters and homeschooling. NC Senator Thom Tillis, while not on this committee, has also received donations from DeVos, to the tune of $70,200.

Our NC Senators have been paid to play and paid to vote yes on her nomination. Let them know that this is not how we want our Senators to operate and we demand a no vote on DeVos’s nomination.

SCRIPT:
I am a constituent concerned about President-Elect Trump’s nomination of Betsy DeVos to the position of Secretary of Education. I want Senator _______ oppose this nomination because Ms. DeVos has never attended or worked in public schools and has little background regarding the experiences of public school students and their families. She is an advocate of school vouchers, an approach that actually has the effect of weakening public schools for at-risk students. Her proposed changes to school curricula would also set U.S. students behind those in other countries. I urge _________ to oppose the proposed nomination of Ms. DeVos and to speak out against it forcefully.
