FRIDAY 3/3/17 CALLS TO ACTION: If ever a swamp needed draining….

FEDERAL:

SESSIONS MUST RESIGN  AND A SPECIAL PROSECUTOR OR SPECIAL COMMISSION MUST BE APPOINTED:

Hours of grilling, huh? That must have been horrible.

Jeff Sessions has now admitted that he met with the Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak, which he point blank denied under oath at his confirmation hearings. Perjury is bad enough, but since there are so many unanswered questions about Russia, the election, and the Trump administration, it is absolutely imperative that Sessions be removed from any oversight of the DOJ or FBI. He is now, despite his protestations that the meetings were not related to the campaign, a subject of the investigation. Some in the intelligence community have speculated that the Russian ambassador is an espionage agent, others say he is simply a powerful diplomat. If the meetings were harmless and routine, why did Sessions keep them secret? It is clear that because so many of the Trump team’s operatives dealt with Russia, and because the head of the Intelligence Committee, Richard Burr, is a Trump apologist, only an independent special prosecutor will be able to get to the bottom of this mess. Please call your representatives today and demand the removal of Sessions, and the appointment of a special prosecutor special committee.

A Who’s Who of the Trump Campaign’s Russia Connections

I am a constituent of Rep./ Sen. ______________ and I am calling for the resignation of Jeff Sessions as Attorney General. Sessions lied under oath to the Senate. Recusal is not enough. Sessions is now implicated in this potential scandal, and he must go. I also demand the appointment of a special prosecutor immediately to begin the work of unraveling what actually happened with Russia during the campaign.

ACA Repeal

I am a constituent of Rep. ______________ and I am calling to urge him/her to vote against repealing the Affordable Care Act. Repealing the ACA would have a devastating effect on the millions of Americans who rely on it to access their health care. It also takes away the popular CHIP program that guarantees health insurance to children. It would also allow insurance companies to deny coverage to people with pre-existing conditions and prevents parents from keeping children on their policies until they turn 26, which will have the effect of making college less affordable for working families. Repeal would also devastate the economy, costing the country thousands of jobs. If Rep. __________ does not vote to repeal, I will donate to and support his/her opponent in the upcoming election.

STATE:

Support HB 243
This bill, known as the STOP Act, would toughen up restrictions on how opioids are prescribed and dispensed. It would also allocate $10 million in each of the next two years for treating addicts and helping them stay clean. The economic and personal ravages of the opioid epidemic are tearing holes in the fabric of our community, and must be addressed.

AG Josh Stein on North Carolina’s opioid epidemic, criminal justice reform and legislative lawsuits (audio)

Hello, I am a constituent in zip code _____________ and I am calling to urge Sen./Rep. _____________ to support the STOP Act. This bill would help stem the flow of illegally obtained opioids, and would allocate needed funds to treat addicts. Thank you for your time.

SB 158

‘This must be how the 1% feel.’

This mean-spirited bill would require massage and bodywork therapists to pass an English proficiency test. The “English only” bogeyman is essentially bigoted. If I want to hire a massage, what does it matter what language the person speaks? Why not support funding for strong ESL programs, or better yet, two-way language immersion programs in schools so that North Carolina’s children can experience the full linguistic and cultural diversity available in our state? This bill is another in a line of hateful proposals designed to pile on to Trump’s bigotry and xenophobia. Even though this useless time waster will probably die an early death, it is important to stand strong with our immigrant sisters and brothers. North Carolinians proudly speak a multiplicity of languages, and represent a diverse array of cultures, all of which make us stronger.

NC bill would require massage therapists to speak English

Hello, I am a constituent in zip code _____________ and I am calling to urge Sen./Rep. _____________ to reject SB 158 that requires massage therapists to pass an English proficiency test. This law is mean-spirited, redundant, and probably unconstitutional. Let’s focus on education and real economic issues instead. Thanks for your time.

Thank you to RISE Together NC for these calls to action.
