THURSDAY 3/9/17 CALLS TO ACTION: Republicans’ New Plan: TrumpDon’tCare

FEDERAL:

Support jobs in your state (and keep the ACA).

NC stands to lose at least 76,000 jobs with a repeal of the ACA. While you’re at it, tell your MoCs how the proposed new AHCA would affect you personally (can’t afford premiums waiting for tax credit, want abortion coverage, want maternity leave without being married, lifetime caps would cause personal bankruptcy, etc.)

Call: Burr, Tillis and Walker

Script: Hi! I’m from _________ and calling not just because I oppose repealing the ACA, but jobs are so important in NC. Repealing ACA would mean losing 76,000 good-paying medical jobs. Does __________ support ACA repeal or replacement? Does he have a plan to replace these jobs?

AG Sessions:
Jeff Sessions must go. He was a terrible pick in the first place. He is against voting rights. He is for private prisons, extreme measures against immigrants, including mass deportations, and now we know he misled Congress. Sessions can not be anywhere near the agency in charge of investigating suspicious Trump White House ties.

Jeff Sessions Likely Met Russian Ambassador A Third Time – Beware: Auto-start video on page

Call: Burr, Tillis

Script:
I am a constituent of Rep./ Sen. ______________ and I am calling for the resignation of Jeff Sessions as Attorney General. Sessions lied under oath to the Senate. Recusal is not enough. Sessions is now implicated in this potential scandal, and he must go. I also demand the appointment of a special prosecutor or special committee immediately to begin the work of unraveling what actually happened with Russia during the campaign.

STATE:

Call: Hurley, McNeill, Tillman & Gunn

HB 88 & SB 73:
These are good bills that would provide nurse practitioners more autonomy and would eliminate the unnecessary dual regulations that nurse practitioners must fulfill. Finally, they get rid of the requirement that nurse practitioners must have a sponsoring physician in order to practice. The UNC Board of Nursing sent out an urgent request that people call on these bills.

Script:
Hello, I am a constituent in zip code _____________ and I am calling to ask Sen./Rep. _____________ to support HB 88/SB 73. This bill would provide nurse practitioners with more autonomy. Specifically it would eliminate the requirement that nurse practitioners must have a sponsoring physician in order to practice. These regulations are standard in almost every state in the country and the bill would reduce costs and increase access to safe and quality healthcare in all areas of North Carolina by removing outdated regulations. Please encourage Sen./Rep. _____________ to support HB 88/SB 73.

HB 200
Without fair districts, we cannot have fair elections. By now, we have all learned about the corrosive effect of race-based gerrymandering on the political process in North Carolina. This is not a partisan issue, and we need to take redistricting out of the hands of the legislature. HB 200 would create a truly independent, nonpartisan board that would draw fair lines.

Script:
Hello, I am a constituent in zip code _____________ and I am calling to urge Rep./Sen. _________________ to support HB 200, which would create a nonpartisan redistricting commission that would end gerrymandering. Some Republicans support this bill, and we urge you to get it to a swift vote. Thank you for your time.
