THURSDAY CALLS TO ACTION: Nibbled to death by ducks.

To your congresspersons, hearing dissenting opinions is like being nibbled to death by ducks. We will wear them down one little bit at a time. And every little bit helps!

With the DeVos confirmation up in the air, word is that the Senate will delay confirmation of Sessions because his vote might actually be pivotal in getting her through, so it might be a good day to focus our attention on polluter extraordinaire, Scott Pruitt, the man who is currently suing the agency he has been nominated to lead.

Scott Pruitt:

10 new pieces of evidence show Scott Pruitt is worse than you think

[Try to get the staffer’s name] I am a constituent from zip code ____ calling to oppose Scott Pruitt’s nomination to lead the Environmental Protection Agency. He has a history of opposing environmental regulations, a stance that will not only harm our planet but will also undermine our national security. Pruitt is also currently suing the EPA, which presents a clear conflict of interest. I ask that Senator ______ vote NO on Pruitt’s confirmation, thank you so much for your time.

Steve Bannon:

Dem offers bill to remove Bannon from National Security Council – Beware of autostart video.

Representative Stephanie Murphy (D-FL) has also introduced a bill demanding that Steve Bannon be removed from the Principals Committee of the National Security Council. The Bannon bill has over 50 co-sponsors, so I think it has some legs.

Script:
I am a constituent from zip code ___________ calling to encourage Rep. _________________ to support the House bill sponsored by Stephanie Murphy that would protect the National Security Council from political influence by banning political appointees such as Steve Bannon from serving on the Principals Committee. This bill would also ensure that security experts such as the DNI and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff would have standing invitations to attend Principals Committee meetings. Our national security should not be a political football; therefore I strongly encourage Rep. ____________ to back this legislation.

The NCGA is also gearing up, and for once, we have the opportunity to call in favor of something. Sen. Jeff Jackson has sponsored a bill calling for full repeal of HB2.

DEMOCRATS SUBMIT ‘CLEAN’ HB2 REPEAL BILL

I am a constituent calling to ask Sen./Rep. ___________________ to support Senate Bill 25, which would fully repeal HB2. Full repeal is the only solution that will protect the rights of the LGBTQ community. Repeal will also ensure that businesses will no longer boycott our state, costing us millions of dollars and thousands of jobs.
