TUESDAY 3/14/17 CALLS TO ACTION: Bromance for Bullies

The Russia Problem is still lurking out there and Republicans seem to be dragging their feet on investigating the Trump Administration and how various members of it are tied to the Russian government and Russian oligarchs. Let’s let them know we haven’t forgotten about it.

Support an independent investigation—until it happens.

Call: Richard Burr and Thom Tillis

Ask them to support Senate Bill 27, which seeks to form an independent commission to investigate Russian influence in the our government and the Trump Administration.

Script: Hi. I’m calling because I would like Senator ________ to support Senate Bill 27 which calls for an independent commission to investigate Russian influence on our election and democracy. Can you tell me how s/he stands on this issue?

HEALTHCARE

Support the ACA, oppose new ACHA, and support patients’ rights.

Call: Burr, Tillis and Walker

Script: Hi! I’m from ZIP code _________ and calling about two issues related to health care. First, I oppose repealing the ACA. For me, losing the ACA would mean (share a personal story: can’t afford premiums waiting for tax credit, want abortion coverage, want maternity leave without being married, lifetime caps would cause personal bankruptcy, etc.). Americans deserve the same plan Congress receives. Secondly, HR 1215 intends to strip patient rights and protect corporations from lawsuits for medical neglect, abuse, and malpractice. Patients rights need to come first. Please ask Senator _______ to vote against HR 1215.

(Alternate script for Walker if you prefer)

Call Mark Walker
Estimate of how many would lose coverage in Mark Walker’s district: 29,911

Walker heads a very conservative group, and is undecided now. He would like to see the bill strip away as many vestiges of the ACA, and tilt it even more free market. Walker’s potential plan dangerous and reckless. He needs to tell his constituents exactly how his plan would protect working-class people while keeping costs affordable. Demand more than platitudes: we need concrete details and numbers.

SCRIPT:

Hello, I am a constituent in zip code ________ and I calling to urge Rep. Walker to reject any health care bill that does not have concrete ways to provide affordable health coverage for all Americans. Any bill even close to the one now before Congress is unacceptable. Eventually, 24 million Americans will lose coverage on this plan. What does Rep. Walker plan to do to alleviate these kinds of medical hardships for his constituents?
