WEDNESDAY CALLS TO ACTION: DeVos’s Check Cleared

Betsy DeVos’s checks must have cleared because she paid for, I mean received, confirmation on a Senate vote today. It’s disappointing, of course, but we have to keep calling, tweeting, protesting, and doing what we do.

CALLING OUR U.S. SENATORS

Town Hall with Thom and Richard:

There is a petition on Change.gov circulating that demands that Senators Tillis and Burr hold town halls and meet with their constituents. It probably isn’t going to convince them, but let’s send a message that we want our leaders to work for us. The petition’s goal is 1,000 signatures, but I’d love to double that.

Tweet to them:

Follow us on Twitter: @RCDemParty

Attention @SenThomTillis: It’s time to meet with your constituents for a town hall. We demand full representation.

Attention @SeantorBurr: It’s time to meet with your constituents for a town hall. We demand full representation.

JEFF SESSIONS:

Let’s do one more push on Sessions, too. They’ll likely confirm him, but at least we can put them on the spot for supporting a bigot.

Warren Silenced For Reading Coretta Scott King Letter at Sessions Debate

Script:
Hello, I am a constituent, and I am calling to tell Sen. ____________ to vote against Senator Jeff Sessions for the position of Attorney General. Sessions has a long history of suppressing voting rights and of espousing bigotry. He has also voted against the Violence Against Women Act. For these reasons, I am urging Sen. _____________ to vote against Sessions.

While we are contacting Thom and Richard we can oppose these cabinet picks:

Pruitt:
Hello I am a constituent in zip code _______ I am calling to oppose Scott Pruitt, for the EPA. And ask the senator to vote no. He is a climate denier, has long sued and attacked the EPA. How can a man who wants to dismantle environmental protections run this department? I appreciate your time and would like you to pass my concerns to the senator.

STATE CONCERNS

NCGA insanity:

Senate Bill 38:

The NCGA is back in session, which means that voting rights are, again, on the chopping block. Senator Bill Cook and the NCGOP want to make it easier for their cronies and lawyers to make bogus claims of voting “fraud” that will further their efforts at voter suppression. In particular, SB 38 would allow any registered voter of the same county to challenge a voter’s absentee ballot.

Here’s the text of the bill: http://www.ncleg.net/Sessio…/2017/Bills/Senate/PDF/S38v0.pdf. Call your rep and senator, but also call Phil Berger, too.

Here’s a script:
Hi, I am a constituent and I am calling to tell Sen./Rep. _______________ to oppose SB 38. The bill would allow any registered voter of the same county to contest a voter’s absentee ballot [ask if they support the bill]. The bill is completely unnecessary and would further undermine our state’s elections. Please tell Sen./Rep. _______________ to vote against SB 38.

OPPOSE HB2 COMPROMISE

Call the house and senate and Governor’s office and simply say:

I am a constituent in zip code _________ I am completely opposed to a compromise on HB2, this bill has nothing in it that should be kept and I would like a full repeal. Thank you so much for your time, and please pass my concerns on to ________.
