WEDNESDAY CALLS TO ACTION: Loud and clear, please!

We’ve added another resource page to our website. This page lists various sites around the internet with action items you can participate in. There are suggestions on who to call, what to say and how to approach your legislators. We will be adding and updating the page as new information becomes available. Visit our new page under the “Resources” tab or click here: Take Action

Burr:

As many of you likely know, Senator Richard Burr called out his constituents this afternoon in justifying his vote for Betsy DeVos, calling our phone calls a “liberal strategy” and suggesting that the thousands of calls he received had actually pushed him to vote for DeVos. Several of you have also reported getting rude treatment from staffers, so if you can get the name of the person who answered your call, please do that so we can document it. Burr’s comments are clearly trying to silence us, so let’s make sure he hears from us loudly and clearly!

Sessions:

[Try to get the staffer’s name] I am a constituent from zip code ____ calling to oppose Jeff Sessions as Attorney General. He has a history of supporting legislation that undermines voting rights, has supported a ban on Muslim immigration, and has opposed justice reform. I ask that Senator ______ vote NO on his confirmation, thank you so much for your time.

The Supreme Court confirmation is going to be a long-term battle, so we can probably wait a few days. Tom Price, Rick Perry, and Steve Mnuchin are also up for confirmation soon, so calls about them might help (and Indivisible is recommending that we call about Sessions, Price, and Perry in particular).

Local: Michael Regan DEQ:

The NCGA will bring the Greatest Show on Earth back Under the Dome next week. Until then, we are waiting a bit to monitor what new disasters the #NCGOP can create, so we can call to support some of Cooper’s nominees.

I am a constituent calling to support Governor Cooper’s nomination of Michael Regan to the position of Secretary of the Department of Environmental Quality. Regan is an outstanding choice for this position with a long career of advocating for the environment. I am asking Senator _______________ vote YES on Regan’s confirmation. Thank you for your time.

Local 2: Thank you Cooper and Stein:

If you haven’t already, call Roy Cooper and Josh Stein to thank them for standing up
against Trump’s Muslim ban and let them know that you want NC to join the federal lawsuit against the immigration ban. Stein’s office is tallying the yeas and nays, so make your voice heard!

Josh Stein: 919-716-6400
