THURSDAY 5/4/17 CALLS TO ACTION: Deeply held beliefs.

White House aims for Thursday signing of religious liberty executive order

What are ‘religious liberty’ bills really about? – “The desired effect of all these initiatives is to allow business owners and employers the right to refuse services to LGBT people”

Trump is set to sign a “religious liberty” Executive Order to coincide with today’s National Day of Prayer. Republicans push so hard for these kinds of regulations because they are adamant about punishing anyone who is not a white, Anglo-Saxon Christian, straight male. Their brand of compassionate conservatism says that regulations are bad unless they pertain to the lives of marginalized groups. Then regulations are fine and dandy!

Call the White House Comment Line at at 202-456-1111 and let the Golfer-In-Chief know we are unhappy about this EO crafted out of hate.

Next, call your Senators, Richard Burr and Thom Tillis and demand that they work to support or put forward legislation that will ensure that EVERY American is guaranteed their 14th Amendment rights to equal protection under the law.

Congressional Health Plan Exemption

And lest Mark Walker think he’s getting a pass today:

Congressional exemption from GOP healthcare plan to be addressed separately

Congress has decided to address the exemption for themselves separately rather than killing it as they ought to. Truly, if our Congress Critters are wanting to opt out, then they already know it’s a bad bill but they’re still going to try and foist it on us.

Call Mark Walker and let him know this is unacceptable.

SCRIPT: This is ______ calling from _________ in the 6th District. I am calling to ask that Rep. Walker withdraw his support from any healthcare bill which exempts members of Congress and their families from inclusion in that healthcare plan. The plan Republicans are currently putting forward is an awful, mostly unvetted mess of a plan. But if the Congressman thinks it is good enough for his constituents so, it should be good enough for him and his family, also. Exempting himself from having to utilize the healthcare plan he’s been supporting may make his constituents think Rep. Walker is less concerned about the well-being of people in his district and more concerned with partisan politics. We surely wouldn’t want that.  Thank you for your time.

STATE:

Under NC law, no doesn’t always mean no

Jonathan Wayne Guy, 48, was initially charged with second-degree rape in the case, but because the North Carolina Supreme Court ruled in a 1979 case that women cannot revoke consent after sex begins, the charges were lowered to misdemeanor assault on a female.”

Call your Senator and urge them to support SB 553 Revoke Consent for Intercourse Act, sponsored by Senator Jeff Jackson, which will rectify the 1979 ruling that says a woman cannot revoke consent after sex begins.
