TUESDAY 3/21/17 CALLS TO ACTION: A Face in the Crowd

**TONIGHT** RCDP Volunteer Appreciation Potluck – Tuesday March 21 at The Exchange. We will be having a postcard party along with our potluck. RCDP will provide postcards, addresses and stamps. All you need to bring is your thoughts to write down for your elected officials.  See link for more details.

Also, If you’ve never seen it, I recommend you set your DVRs to record A Face in the Crowd from 1957 on TCM tonight. It is eerie how similar Andy Griffith’s character, Lonesome Rhodes is to our current Golfer-In-Chief.

FEDERAL BUDGET AGAIN:

SCRIPT : National Institutes of Health cuts

Hello, I am a constituent from ___________________ and I am calling to urge Sen./Rep. ___________________ to reject President Trump’s proposed budget. In particular, I am concerned about the massive–and highly destructive–cuts to the National Institutes of Health. These cuts would stall important medical research, weaken America’s status as the world leader in science and medicine, and would likely cost thousands of jobs, including many right here in the Piedmont Triad area. Thousands of people have benefited from the biomedical research conducted by the NIH, and even small cuts can significantly slow down vital research. Please tell Sen./Rep. ________________ to reject any Trump budget that includes cuts for the NIH.

SCRIPT : NEH/NEA

Hello, I am a constituent from ___________________ and I am calling to urge Sen./Rep. ___________________ to reject President Trump’s proposed budget. In particular, I am concerned about cuts to the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities. These cuts would shut down many vital arts projects, including small programs here in North Carolina. Much of this funding goes to preserving our cultural heritage, and in many cases, these programs actually create jobs, making them into a net gain for taxpayers. Please tell Sen./Rep. ________________ to reject any Trump budget that includes cuts for the NEA or NEH.

STATE:

Keep contacting your legislators about HB 100, the bill to make NC judicial elections partisan. If judges are supposed to be impartial, then why would Republicans in the GA want to put party affiliation on a ballot, unless there was some ulterior motive? Nah, Tim Moore and Phil Berger would never act like that.  ? ??  (I don’t know how I managed to say that with a straight face!)

Script:

I am a constituent calling from (zip code) ________ and I am calling to urge Rep./Senator _________ to oppose HB 100. It is critical that judicial races remain non-partisan. The voters of North Carolina are tired of partisan bickering. Please let Cooper’s veto of this bill stand. Thank you for recording my call.
