TUESDAY CALLS TO ACTION: Money Talks and Poor Folks Walk.

I promise when I win the lottery I’m going to buy us our own Senator just like Betsy DeVos did!

National politics:

Betsy DeVos nomination:

I am a constituent from zip code_______ concerned about President Trump’s nomination of Betsy DeVos to the position of Secretary of Education. Her testimony before the HELP committee showed that she is woefully unprepared to deal with major education policy issues, including student debt, disability rights, and charter school accountability. I ask that Senator _______ vote against Ms. DeVos because her policies will do significant damage to our public education system.

Steve Mnuchin nomination:

I am a constituent from zip code_______ concerned about President Trump’s nomination of Steve Mnuchin to the position of Secretary of the Treasury. Mnuchin has made extensive use of tax havens and has declined to say whether he would allow such loopholes to persist. He also misled thousands of homeowners during the mortgage crisis when he was the head of OneWest bank. For these reasons, I ask that Senator ____________ vote against Mr. Mnuchin.

State politics:

NC Senate Bill 25 (Repeal HB2):

The NCAA is going to take basketball away for six years if HB 2 isn’t repealed. Even UNC basketball coach called HB 2 that “stupid law” in a post-game interview. It might be the perfect time to do a really big push on getting a full repeal of HB2.

Script: I am a constituent calling to ask Sen./Rep. ___________________ to support Senate Bill 25, which would fully repeal HB2. Full repeal is the only solution that will protect the economic interests of North Carolina citizens. Repeal will ensure that businesses will no longer boycott our state, costing us millions of dollars and thousands of jobs. Please tell Sen./Rep. ____________ to support Senate Bill 25.

Keep asking all your representatives on a state and national level to hold town halls. Burr and Tillis are avoiding us and have said that there won’t be any opportunities for us to meet face to face with them. Keep the pressure on. THEY work for US. Let us know if you have any success. Here’s an example of what we’re up  against, with regards to Sen. Richard Burr:
