FRIDAY CALLS TO ACTION: No alternative facts allowed!

#NoBanNoWall event in Raleigh tomorrow at noon

https://www.facebook.com/events/723690511142379/

DON’T FORGET to MOVE YOUR MONEY to an independent bank or credit union. If you bank with a large bank you bank with the backers of terrible legislation. And now that it looks like Trump is going to defund the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau now is the time to take business from the banks who love hidden fees, complex contracts, and rising credit interest rates!

Town Hall Project 2018
According to their records, only three NC reps have held (or scheduled) town halls. Please consider calling your Representative to try to get them to commit to holding a town hall.

TODAY’S CALLS

DeVOS:

It has been reported that both Sen. Richard Burr (received $43,000) and Sen. Thom Tillis (received $70,200) will be voting in favor of Betsy DeVos for Sec. of Education. They may be lost causes, but we still need to let them know that we’re highly disappointed that they would sell our children’s futures for campaign donations. Also, please encourage friends and family members in other states to call their Senators and demand that they vote NO on DeVos. Two Republican Senators, Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski, have said that they will vote NO. We need one more to block.

Here are five crucial reasons we need to #StopDeVos:

  1. DeVos has zero experience in public education.
  2. Devos has made few statements on the student debt crisis.
  3. Over $1 million in campaign contributions to Senators voting on her nomination.
  4. She wants to funnel tax dollars away from public schools.
  5. She wants to stop enforcing the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.

Bannon:

The Southern Poverty Law Center has reported that the Senate Committee on Homeland Security is taking calls on Bannon’s appointment to the National Security Council. Here’s their number: 202-224-4751

Here’s a script, largely adapted from the SPLC:
I am calling to tell the committee that no individual whose primary responsibility is political in nature should be allowed on the NSC or authorized to attend its meetings. Partisan politics have no place in our national security. Please demand that Bannon be removed from this committee and that legislation be passed preventing this kind of politicized appointment in the future.

Scott Pruitt:

Pruitt was voted out of committee yesterday, so he should be up for a full floor vote soon. Here’s a script for him:

[Try to get the staffer’s name] I am a constituent from zip code ____ calling to oppose Scott Pruitt’s nomination to lead the Environmental Protection Agency. He has a history of opposing environmental regulations, a stance that will not only harm our planet but will also undermine our national security. Pruitt is also currently suing the EPA, which presents a clear conflict of interest. I ask that Senator ______ vote NO on Pruitt’s confirmation, thank you so much for your time.
